With one year to go until the summit where heads of state and government will agree on a new global agenda for inclusive, sustainable development that will build on the Millennium Declaration and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the High-Level Panel (HLP) has presented an open letter to the UN Secretary-General.
One year on since they issued their report, the HLP recognises that there is much to celebrate: the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals (OWG) has made a proposal for universally applicable goals and the Intergovernmental Expert Committee on Sustainable Development Financing is making vital contributions to identifying how to make them happen.
However, the open letter of the HLP underlines key issues that will need to be taken into account for a successful Post-2015 agenda, including recognising the key role that cities will play in a sustainable future.
